This story had a lot of space for me as the illustrator, to make another layer of story by creating characters in my illustrations that never show up in the text. Three pipefish show up on every page that Little Red does, Little Red's pet Hermie, and even Grandma's bed is alive! I loved getting to design a fish's kitchen and other fantastical underwater dwellings for Red Snapper and her family!
